Hughes & Hughes is founding partner of the "Pro-bono Clearinghouse" in Uruguay. The Clearinghouse is a pro bono coordination center: it receives requests for pro bono assistance, distributes them among the lawyers of the Uruguayan law firms participating in the project, and distributes the work among those who show interest in working on them. The creation of the Pro-bonoClearinghouse in Uruguay has the support of the Cyrus R. Vance Center forInternational Justice in New York. The Law School of the Universidad de Montevideo also participates in this project so that its students can work in pro bono cases together with the lawyers of the Uruguayan legal firms.
The launch of this initiative in Uruguay was held on Monday, March 13 at the Universidad de Montevideo with Antonia Stolper, partner of Shearman &Sterling LLP in New York and member of the Executive Committee of the VanceCenter as speaker.
