Pre-feasibility studies conducted by the Engineering School of the University of Uruguay, identified 40 viable locations for small hydroelectric dam projects in Uruguay. Some of the projects would be used for irrigation. The 40 projects could generate enough power for 73,500 homes. The technical and economic feasibility studies were conducted with financing of the National Innovation & Research Agency and the IDB.
